M5 Reflection - Essay Example Inclusive schools cultures that are open and friendly to the communities around them as well as the rest of the stakeholders can be achieved through ensuring the communication between all these entities is trusting and open (Stuht, 2009). Social capital is greatly increased when the schools and the community are able to communicate openly and teachers must word hard to eliminate any misunderstandings founded on cultural differences. I order to improve the academic achievements of schools and students, it is important to involve community-based organizations such as libraries, zoos and museums among other organizations as they provide the students with additional information. Additionally, the schools should adhere to the federal regulations for the involvement of parents and parents can ensure this through creating awareness in the school environment (Wanat, 2010). The parents should have a commitment to creation of a positive school culture as well as a safe and operational learning environment, which is able to support holistic education. The schools should also be committed to lead and manage evidence based instructional programs that will make sure that all the children who learn in their institutions gain knowledge, skillsets and values that will mold them into contributing society

United States history - Essay Example The issue of democracy in America in general is one which has been debated on and about for ages, and the matter of whether or not capitalism has played a larger role in the defining of American foreign policy when compared to democracy is one which is incredibly significant and relevant overall. There are many different factors which need to be taken into consideration in order to be able to properly determine the answer to this posing, and this particularly in regards to the reasons that America became involved in foreign affairs in the late 19th century, as well as the motivations for their entering both world wars and the progress of the Cold War, for instance. All of these issues have great influence on the matter of whether democracy or capitalism should be considered as being more important in the defining of American foreign policy, and thus they all must be thoroughly addressed and discussed. The aim of this paper is to consider all aspects of both democracy and capitalism wh ich are two tremendously dynamic and substantial subjects on their own, and to compare their similarities and differences in order to be able to properly determine which has played more of a role in creating and defining American foreign policy since the 1800s. We will be able to do this by discussing the previously mentioned issues as well as any and all other key and related factors relevant to this case. This is what will be dissertated in the following. The term democracy is one which is typically used in the context of a political state however the principles are also applicable to numerous other groups and organizations. There are several different forms of democracy, with the most major being: representative, liberal, direct, socialist, anarchist, tribal, and consensus. The representative, liberal, and direct forms of democracy are the most well-known, and they are considered as follows: representative democracy is the form of democracy which involves the selection of government officials by the people, and one characteristic of representative democracy in particular is that of the fact that while the representatives are elected by the people, to act in their interest, they retain the freedom to exercise their own judgment as how best to do so; liberal democracy is a form representative democracy with free and fair elections along with the protection of minorities, the rule of law, a separation of powers, and protection of liber ties; and the direct form of democracy is one which is largely referred to as being "a political system where the citizens vote on all major policy decisions. It is called direct because, in the classical forms, there are no intermediaries or representatives. All direct democracies to date have been relatively small communities, usually city-states. However, some see the extensive use of referenda, as in California, as akin to direct democracy in a very large polity with more than 20 million potential voters" (Wikipedia, 2007). Capitalism, on the other hand, is a term which generally refers to an economic system in which "the means of production are mostly privately owned and operated for profit, and in which distribution, production and pricing of goods and services are determined in a largely free market. It is usually considered to involve the right of individuals and groups of individuals acting as 'legal persons' or corporations to trade capital goods, labor, land and money" (Boyer, Clark & Kett, 2002). The first actual theories of capitalism came about in the context of the Industrial Revolution, and this followed the social theorist Karl Marx in particular, and these theories were generally used to criticize the concept. Assignment - Essay Example These attributes are important because these allow the nurse to perform his or her job much more effectively in terms of the delivery of expected expert care and affect or influence the outcome of various nursing therapeutic roles such as in emotional support, spiritual guidance, information gathering and sharing with the patient, in advocacy of certain medical and ethical issues related to nursing care and patient interactions, in validation of the patient’s feelings, in patient empowerment, and psychological ventilation of the many concerns that many patients usually have, especially those already undergoing their end-stage palliative care. Taken together, all these mentioned attributes are to be directed towards one goal only which is the rendition of nursing care, and in this connection, there are several nursing theories of care which had been propounded by expert nursing practitioners over the years. Among the foremost theories are that of Swanson which relate to the aspects of knowing (the patient), being with, doing for, engaging in the enabling process, and finally, in maintaining belief (Swanson, 2010:433). There are many other similar theories of nursing care which require the same attributes of a good registered nurse like that of Jean Watson’s the Caring Moment, that of Lydia Hall’s Core, Cure, and Care, and of Ernestine Weidenbach’s nursing as a helping art. Nursing developed not only as task-based interventions but as real care (West, 2009:16). Critical thinking is the ability of a person to analyse certain facts and events in an objective manner that helps him or her to make a wise decision. It is therefore a type of reasoning that allows a person to synthesize information from observations and experiences to enable him to reach a reasonably accurate belief and combine this with reflection for an effective action. For those in the nursing profession, critical

Bmw - Essay Example From the marketing side three developments make the need for information greater now than in the past: global marketing, the customer-oriented marketing approach and the nonprice competition. Information transforms the financial decisions governed by the numbers into business decisions based on the probability of alternative strategic assumptions thus it requires that the business has formulated a strategy and this strategy and its assumptions are challenged. Therefore, the organization needs to continuously innovate in order to remain and become antagonistic. The management requires sales data especially up-to-the minute reports on current sales. It needs to have accurate data on stock levels of products, it needs information on customer profiles (financial and personal data), on marketing expenditure, on customers’ perception about the company and its products, on industry sales and market shares, on staff’s training needs, on financial aspects of the company (debts, loans, cash-flow, budgeting etc.), on R&D and on production line requirements. The BMW Group follows the efficient dynamics strategy i.e. the environmental friendly car production and the customer orientation. Thanks to the use of flexible working methods and working-time accounts, the BMW Group directs its production capacities highly efficiently to changes in demand on the various sales markets. Identify an example of each of strategic, tactical and operational decisions which might be/have been taken by your chosen business. Explain why these decisions are respectively strategic, tactical and operational. 18 marks Number ONEÂ  expresses our claim to leadership, its letters O, N and E stand for Opportunities, New and Efficiency: we want to make the most of new opportunities and achieve new levels of efficiency. Analysis of the Research Article pH Effects on the Bio-Permeability of Essay

Analysis of the Research Article pH Effects on the Bio-Permeability of Polymers Used in Prophylactics - Essay Example The hypothesis in this study was that pH has an effect on bio-permeability of NLR condoms hence research question is: Does pH increase the permeability of NLR condoms to infectious agents? In order to get an answer to the research question, this study tested pH effects on the permeability of natural latex rubber thus pH is an independent variable while permeability of NLR is a dependent variable. The investigators exercised adequate control of the variables. The NLR were first tested for any permeability using neutral water, bacteriophage and bacteria (E. Coli) and only those that were impermeable at the beginning of the experiment were used in the experiment. This was very important since it ensured the results that showed permeability after treating with different pH solutions were not as a result of any other factor but the pH. The second control was by cleaning the NLR condoms using distilled and neutral water. This was important because of two controls; first, by ensuring all lubricants, flavors and essence are removed from the NLR condom and second, there is no effect on the subsequent removal since distilled water (neutral was used) (Tubman et al 293-294). The investigators also prepared and standardized the bacteria that was used in this experiment and used the right media to inoculate and isolate the bacteria and bacteriophage. However, the investigators have not shown evidence of calibration of the pH meter that was used. Since pH is a variable, preparation of the pH solutions that were used to treat NLR condoms only is only mentioned but does not show for example how the study confirmed that pH 4.2 was actually 4.2. Moreover, replication of this study could face a challenge due to this fact.

South African Foreign Policy in the 1930's Essay

South African Foreign Policy in the 1930's - Essay Example The links between the Afrikaans and the German people extended through time and had been present since the first European settlements were made in South Africa. J.F.J. van Rensburg, who later became the Kommandant Generaal of the Ossewa Brandwag, wrote in his autobiography that he carefully, meticulously and gratefully learnt the German language since it was the language of a kindred people. Oswald Pirow, the Minister for Justice and later Defence Minister was a self confessed Germanophile. He visited Europe on several occasions, and made it a point to pay his respects to German and pro-German Leaders like Hitler, Goering, Mussolini, and Franco (Bunting, 1964). Mussolini himself employed racial discrimination as a factor in the foreign policies and government of his country much like South Africa (Robertson, 1998). Considering the example set by her father, Pirow’s daughter must have done her father proud when in 1939 she arrived in England and gave an interview on her way to a German Women’s camp while talking to a representative of the Daily Express to whom she said that even though she had never been to Germany, it felt like home. Her grandparents on both sides were German and her father spent his boyhood in Germany. This idea of taking Germany as home was present in many of the Afrikaner people of German descent since there was a natural affinity between them and the Germans (Bunting, 1964). It can hardly be expected that such sentiments could give the British much confidence in South African support at the eve of war.
